We like wine, and even more so, we like designing what it looks like. Once all the hard work of growing, harvesting and making is complete it's satisfying to see it packaged up into a final product that not only gives justice to the toil within, but identifies it as a distinguished product in markets both here and overseas.

We've developed brands for a range of different wineries; from the boutique &Co to more established players such as Yealands.

A selection of some of our favourites are shown here.

&Co
&Co represents simplicity – of purpose, provenance and production. The winery produces a single exceptional estate wine each season. To emphasise this we've pared the identity back to a black and white palette. We've made a feature of the type, letting it 'speak' to the customer. &Co breaks convention with more traditional looking wine brands, topped off with the uniquely cool closure of a crown seal, we're not at all upset that once opened we have to drink the whole bottle.

Dada
The Dada movement was a huge source of inspiration to the design of this top end boutique wine package. Typographically we settled on Braggadocio, a strange hybrid with characteristics of both sans serif and modern faces; and it belongs very much to its time. Like high society in the 1920s, it should not be taken too seriously. But don’t be fooled – this juice is the real deal!

Cascina Cavolpi
Developed for the Italian Private Label which translates as 'Fox House', Cascina Cavolpi features an illustration by New Zealand artist Tony Lane.

Skylark
Commissioned by Yealands Estate for a new range of wines for the New Zealand market. These labels showcase the beautiful illustrations of Hello Von, a London based illustrator.

Te Awa
We worked with Te Awa from the development of their very first vintage in 1995 to their redesign in 2005. With a clean, classic typographic approach and subtle choice of textured stock, the labels have a traditional feel, reflecting the winemaking philosophies embraced at this Hawkes Bay vineyard.

Full Circle
Yealands Estate became the first New Zealand winery to sell a range of wines in environmentally friendly plastic bottles. We worked closely with them to develop the name and branding for this wine, Full Circle. Featuring organic, modern colours, its new and green and ever so stylishly so.

Yealands Estate Private Labels
Over the last couple of years we have developed a series of Private Label brands for Yealands to sell into European supermarkets. Multiple options are presented and the client is able to choose a custom package ready to go. Pictured are a selection that have been put into production.

123
A concept for a series of cleanskin wines. Using the ubiquitous font, Helvetica, the labels are straight to the point - no winespeak, no nonsense. A colloquial way for a product range to say 'value for money' with a little sense of humour on the side.
